The Master of Arts in Christian Formation and Discipleship was the founding program for the Centre of Christian Formation and Discipleship. It was held concurrently within YWAM's University of the Nations at it's Burtigny Campus in Switzerland and venues in Cape Town, South Africa.
The cohort consisted of 35 YWAM missionaries working across 13 nations in discipleship focussed ministries. The entry requirements included at least 7 years of Discipleship-focussed ministry which was required due to the importance of practising the vocation of disciple-making in order to meaningfully reflect upon it.
The candidates studied at distance in their respective ministry locations and then gathered in Burtigny or Cape Town for 2 week intensives for each module.
The Program consisted of 6 Modules:
- Spiritual Formation – In Historical Perspective
- Foundations in Theology for Discipleship I
- Human Development
- Facilitating Formation through Education
- Foundations in Theology for Discipleship II
- Growing Disciples who Grow the Kingdom
The program ran from August 2012 to December 2015. It had 31 candidates from 11 nations who engaged capstone projects and thesis in areas as diverse as;
- Discipleship Models for Oral cultures in South Asia
- Facilitating transformation through deepening experiences of table fellowship
- Theology and Praxis in Forgiveness for an African context
- The role of narrative, community and Trinitarian fellowship for the Formation of adult children of divorce.
